Lover’s Leap Waterfall Nuwara Eliya

Travelling on Nuwara Eliya – Kandapola road for 1.5 km, the nearest waterfall to Nuwara Eliya town; Lover’s Leap Waterfall can be reached. This waterfall is in the south east border of Piduruthalagala forest Reserve. Just after a mini hike on a stoned path, view of this waterfall can be seen. It is 30 m high waterfall; where water falls over from a huge rock. The cascading water falling is breath taking. In the course of mini hike the hikers can see the tea plantations too. Reaching the waterfall they can also see a Shiva Shrine from where hikers can take a good view of the water fall. Name of the waterfall has got its name after a famous romantic folk lore of a royal prince and a village girl. Upon rejection from his father for his love affair with the village girl, the prince has gone with the girl to this waterfall. They had climbed to the big stone at the top of the water fall and jumped down and died. Thereafter the waterfall has been named “Lover’s Leap Waterfall”. Water of this waterfall is used by inhabitants of the area for drinking. During British Colonial period water from this fall has also been used for brewing.
