Duraiappa Stadium Jaffna

The Duraiappah stadium was located in the heart of Jaffna town and a few kilo meters apart from Jaffna library. The sports stadium is nearly half kilometres apart from Jaffna fort.

The Duraiappah stadium was named in a memory of late Mayor of Jaffna, Alfred Thangarajah Duraiappah. The honourable Mayor was assassinated in 1975 due to political controversy. After the civilian war the stadium was renovated and prompted to an eligible International sports stadium. With the help of Indian government, millions of rupees were invested in the renovation works of the stadium.

The Duraiappah stadium plays a leading role in the field of sports for the Northern region. Many sports activities will be conducted here and it promotes the sports spirit in the region.
