43 acre premises of land which addressed as Post Box 57, Thirunelvely, Jaffna, Sri Lanka is owned by University of Jaffna.

Paremeswara College was the base for the origin of University of Jaffna. Still today the entrance of Jaffna University remains that old building of Paremeswara College. As the sixth university of Sri Lanka, the Jaffna University was established in 974. Presently it offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees such as BA, BBA, BBM, B.Com, BFA, BICT, B.Pharm, BSc, LLB, MA, MEd, MBBS and MSc. There are nine faculties such as Faculty of Agriculture, Applied Sciences, Arts, Business Studies, Engineering, Faculty of Graduate Studies, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, Faculty of Medicine and Science to offer the above mentioned degrees. 5 locations of Jaffna covered to establish the faculties. Thirunelvely Jaffna – Main administrative building, Faculties of Arts, Management Studies & Commerce, Science, Medicine and Agriculture, Marthanamadam - Ramanathan Academy of Fine Arts, Kaithady- Siddha Medicine, Vavuniya - Faculty of Business Studies and Applied Science and Kilinochchi - faculties of Agriculture and Engineering. The emblem of Jaffna University is nanthi (bull) and traditional oil lamp. These are surrounded by 64 flames as a round border of the emblem and they represent the 64 variety of arts in Tamil culture (ஆய கலைகள்). The English meaning of the motto is Discernment is wisdom.

The scholars, old & present students and those who interested in the education field visit the University commonly.
