Monaragala District is located in the Uva Province of the Island. This is the second largest district among the 25 districts. The district is abundant with natural attractions such as reservoirs, rivers, waterfalls and national parks namely Yala national park & Gal oya national park. Also the district is home for many historical and religious venues. The district is famous for its natural beauty and its name, Monaragala narrates the meaning – land of peacock habitat. Cultivation is the main livelihood of the district. Sinhalese and Buddhism plays the predominance among the population.
