The district of Mannar, belongs to the Northern Province and located to the West of Jaffna District. The western tip of the district, which consist the capital city Mannar of the district is known to be as island as it is surrounded by water. But the Western part of the district joins with the rest land area of the district by a bridge. The majority residents are Sri Lankan Tamils and the religion followed by the majority is Catholicism. The district is famous for pilgrimage as it consists of famous Madhu church and Thiruketheeswaram temple.
