Polonnaruwa District
The district of Polonnaruwa is located in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka. The district is famous throughout the history of Sri Lankan Kingdom, as it was the second established kingdom. The ancient Polanarwa city has been declared as a “World heritage” site by UNESCO, for having archaeological ruins and monuments. Although the district is located in the dry zone, agriculture exists as the main source of income. The ancient tanks & canals which provide the amazing water network in the district were provided by the ancient rulers of the Kingdom. Majority of the population belongs to Sinhalese and Buddhism exist as their main religion.
