The legendary Hindu temple Thiruketheeswaram is in Mannar, Northern Province. More clearly, it’s located in Manthota, an old port town of Mannar District and which is a few km North from Mannar town.The temple was named as Thiruketheeswaram as that here Kethu Bhagavan worshipped lord Shiva or Eeswaran ( Thiru – Kethu – Iswaram). The temple Thiruketheeswaram is the famous pilgrim among the five easwarams namely, Koneswaram, Naguleswaram, Thenavaram and Munneswaram of the island which were dedicated to lord Shiva. Tamil Hindu natives of the Manthota proudly says that the Ketheesawaram temple is one among the 275 padal petra sthalams –{ ghly; ngw;w ];jyk; } in the continent. Other than Koneswaram temple of Trincomalee, Thiruketheeswaram temple is the only temple which owes the proud in the Island. There is a tank named Palavi which considered as more spiritual one by the Hindu devotees. Presently the temple was renovated well and the colourful Gopuram of the temple catches every eye.Many Hindu devotees and natives visit the temple to worship and to carry out the traditional pooja for their lord.

Nuwara Eliya, one of the good tourist attraction spot of Sri Lanka consist many historically important venues. Seetha Eliya temple is one among them. The temple is located as 5km from the Nuwara Eliya town and nearly 1.5km from Botanic Gardens Hakgala, Peradeniya.According to Ramahayana this is the place where Sita imprisoned by a demon king named Ravana. Mythical evidences are proved with the existence of abundant ashoka trees (ashoka vana), stream near the forest (Seetha River which fed her when she imprisoned), burned mud near the Seetha River (evidence for Hanuman set fire when Seeta was held captive) and the large foot prints on a rock near the stream (footprints of Hanuman), to state that the temple area is the place where Seeta kept during her prison days. The temple Seetha Eliya of Sri Lanka is unique for being one of very few temples in the world which allocated for Seeta. Morning 8AM to 1PM and Afternoon 2PM to 6:30PM the temple pooja are available. As a pilgrimage in the hill station of the country, the Seeta Eliya temple welcomes more tourist to the nation. Those who visit can enjoy the nature as well.

Koneswaram temple of Trincomalee is an hindu holy place in Trincomalee, eastern zone Sri Lanka respected by savites all over the continent. It is built atop Swami rock, a rocky promontory cape overlooking Trincomalee, a classical era harbour port town.This temple for Lord Shiva is respected as “Daksha Kalish” . Legends say lord Shiva accompanied by the Devas and Rish took abode on the “Trikona rock” in order to get peaceful to the island when it was threatened by a deluge of climate. Many pallava and chola kings of India made endowments for this temple saint Thirukoneswarannthar glorified this holy place in the “pathikam” hymn.
In the Tamil language, temples are known as kovils, thus the place of worship complex is known locally as Konecharam Kovil, the abode of Kona - Eiswara (the Chief Lord or God). The presiding Shiva deity's names are Konesar (pronounced Konechar or Konasir compound of Kona and Eiswara), Koneswaran, Kona - Natha and the goddess wife is called Mathumai Amman (another name for Mother goddess Amman). It presently earned the title Thiru Koneswaram Kovil.
Granted rights of villages in its floruit to form the Trincomalee District, Trincomalee village is situated on the cape isthmus within the compounds. The modern temple has been a source of conflict between the majority of Sinhalese and minority of Tamils due to its position in a geostrategically main area. Revenue from the place of worship provides services and food to local residents. Koneswaram has many strong historical associations. The temple is described in the Vayu Purana, the Konesar Kalvettu and thevaram hymns by SAmbanthar and Sundarar as a Paddal Petra Sthalam along with its west coast counterpart Ketheeswaram temple. Mannar, it is the palce of birth of Patanjali, the complier of the Yoga Sutras and was honored for its tradition by Arunagirinatharupon his vist.

It’s called as Varatharajah perumal kovil,kannan kovil and Kirushnan kovil. The holy theertham of this temple is oceanic sea. The vanni tree growing in temple premise is believed to bear some divine significance. And there is a special festival also and it’s held on two different occasions.One is on August month. 2nd is on December month for ten days. This occasion call as Vaikunda aakadeshi or thiruvenpaavai. And there is two times chariot festival in a year. Every Sunday also there is a special pooja in this temple. There is lot of devotees and tourist comes and visits this temple and they enjoy well this beech side nature. This journey will take an hour from Jaffna town.
