Degaldoruwa Raja Maha Viharaya

The Viharaya named Degaldoruwa Raja Maha Viharaya is positioned in a village of Central Province. The village is nearly 7km far from Kandy city and called as village Amunugama.

Although the viharaya is a cave temple it was a man made cave. The patronage of king Keerthi Sri Rajasinghe was responsible for this cave temple.

The temple is specially famous for its ceiling paintings. The cave ceilings and the walls decorated with the paintings of four Jathaka stories, scene of Lord Buddha and the forces of Mara and many more. At the top of the rock there is a Bo tree and a stupa which gives a spiritual mindset.

Visitors, tourists and pilgrims can get more information about the Degaldoruwa raja Maha Viharaya when refer the Dealgaldoruwa copper plate of king Rajadhi Rajasinghe.
