An area of more than 30 square kilometres in the Gampaha District was occupied by a water body and it’s referred as Negombo lagoon. Negombo is nearly 28 to 33 km north to the main city, Colombo and somewhat near to the Katunayake International Airport.Negombo town is traditionally based on fishing industry and the economy mainly depends on tourism. Dandugam Oya, Old Dutch Canal and many other small water sources fed the lagoon and the outflow of the lagoon linked to Indian Ocean by a narrow canal. One of the developed fishery area in the Southern coastal zone of Sri Lanka is known as Tangalle. The busy town, Tangalle is nearly 195km from island capital city, Colombo and situated in
Hambantota District. According to internal legends, the name Tangalle reflects the meaning of projecting rock in Sinhala. It means, the Tangalle town area was protected by a lengthy rock from sea. That lengthy rock was projected out from the sea across the bay gate.

Beach Mount-Laviniya is located throughout the length of the Southern coastal belt and 10km apart from capital city of the Island, Colombo.
